1 - A Strong Warning
Proverbs 14:
17. A short-tempered man is a fool. He hates the man who is patient.
LB
When we consider the kinds of people who we should form strong friendships
with, the Bible warns us against a short-tempered person.
No one likes to be called a fool, but the Bible says that a short-tempered
person is a fool.
That's a strong statement.
Is it meant as an insult? Not at all. Instead this is meant as a strong warning
to us in choosing those we are going to be close to.
These days we hear a great deal about domestic violence. Many times this
occurs because someone in the family has a short fuse on their temper.
Maybe they came into the family as an angry person and when that anger
explodes, others are damaged: physically, mentally and emotionally.
Some short-tempered people are abusers.
If you are a short-tempered person, you need to do some work on yourself.
Find out why your temper explodes and gets out of control.
God has made you to be king of your whole person. That means that your kingdom
includes your temper. Are you king of your temper, or does your temper dictate
your reactions in life?
When you come to the place where you control your temper - instead of your
temper controlling you - then you will be the king of your person.
Then the
Bible will no longer define you as a fool.
Prayer:
Father, give me wisdom today in choosing those who will be my friends and
companions. Help me to choose to be around those who are patient.
Father, help me with my temper. Help me to find those who can teach me how
to be in control of my temper, and help me to listen to them and learn
from them.
Thank You for being so patient with me while I sort myself out,
in Jesus' name,
Amen.
